Words from Our Pastor - Week of December 14, 2025

The Power of the Pause

Power House, in our season of acceleration, we need to make the most of our time. Believe it or not, sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is to rest. Rest is not merely the absence of activity but the intentional act of restoring the body, mind, and spirit.

In a world that constantly rewards being busy, true rest requires slowing down, setting boundaries, and allowing ourselves moments of stillness. Sometimes, we have simply got to pause everything else and listen to what our bodies and minds are telling us. To be the best version of ourselves requires that we rest, because physical rest renews our strength, mental rest clears our thoughts, and emotional and spiritual rest help us regain perspective and peace.

God set an example by resting on the seventh day, reminding us that rest is not a weakness but a purposeful and necessary part of living well. And even while we accelerate in life, we must intentionally carve out seasons of rest, allowing ourselves to recharge so that our momentum is sustainable and our best selves can emerge.

Power House, we have work to do: let's accelerate!

Yours in Christ,

Dr. Odell Riley, DMin

Senior Pastor

Exodus 20: 8-11

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
